Eligibility and Application Process

Academic background: a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or a closely related field. Many programmes also accept strong quantitative backgrounds with prerequisite courses.
Grades: a strong GPA matters, and the cut-off differs a lot between universities. There is no single conversion from Indian percentage to GPA, so use each university’s own guidance.

OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B: What Changed

OPT: F-1 graduates can work for 12 months on OPT, with a 24-month extension for eligible STEM degrees. See OPT in the USA guide 2026.
H-1B weighted selection: under the final rule that took effect on 27 February 2026, each registration enters the lottery 1 to 4 times based on the wage level of the offered salary (Weinstock Immigration Lawyers). Higher wage levels improve selection odds.
