What is an OFC Appointment? Why Is It Needed?

What Happens After the OFC Appointment?

Several US rules changed in 2025, and they affect Indian students directly:

Do I need an OFC appointment if I am renewing my F-1 visa?

In most cases, yes. Since 2 September 2025 nearly all applicants, including F-1 renewals, must attend an in-person interview, and the portal will tell you whether you also need to book an OFC (VAC) appointment, which may not be required if your biometrics are already on file.
