NYU scholarships for international students

Here are some of the NYU scholarships for international students.

Study Away Need-Based Grants $3,000 Students who applied by the regular deadline (2/15 or 9/15) for a semester study at one of the NYU Academic Centers.
CAS Dean’s Opportunity Fund for Study Away The fund helps to replace loss of income, up to $1500 Need-based financial assistance to CAS students.
Marc and Ruti Bell Public Service Scholarship $8,000 annual scholarship renewable until graduation Current second- and third-year NYU undergraduates.
The Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship Each award will include full tuition and will provide a stipend of $2,500. Supports undergraduate and graduate students who will study Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Persian, Turkish and Urdu as an integral part of an academic program focusing on the Middle East.
Abraham and Anna Puller Global Chemistry Scholarships Up to $5,000 for each semester of study abroad, not to exceed $10,000 for any one recipient. An NYU chemistry major who has enrolled in a study-abroad program.
Wasserman Center Global Internship Grant $1,200 Students pursuing unpaid internships in qualifying industries during the fall and spring.

Federal loans – NYU financial aid for international students

Federal loans, unlike NYU scholarships for international students, require that you pay back the amount you receive, along with interest. The interest rates are generally lower than what private loan providers offer.

Federal Direct Loans Includes Direct Subsidized, Direct Unsubsidized, Parent PLUS and Graduate PLUS loans. Satisfactory academic progress and financial need.
Federal Nursing Student Loan Student loan at 5% internet that does not accrue while you remain enrolled at least half-time in a nursing program. Students who demonstrate a financial need and are enrolled at least half-time in the College of Nursing.
Health Professions Student Loan Program Student loan at 5% internet that does not accrue while you remain enrolled at least full-time student in the program. Students who demonstrate a financial need and are enrolled full-time in the College of Dentistry.

You can apply for these loans through FAFSA.

You have a limit on how much you can borrow. This table will explain the limitations.

Private (Non-federal) Loans – NYU financial aid  for international students

Private loans could come from a bank or other education loan provider. Usually, interest rates, terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements will vary with private loans. Some private loans do not offer full deferment options.

Student Employment

There are two types of student employment: federal work-study and a job. If you don’t quality for NYU scholarships for international students, student employment can help you make ends meet.

Federal Work-Study

In addition to scholarships and loans, your financial aid package from New York University may also include eligibility for work-study. 

If you qualify for the Federal Work-Study Program, you will receive a fixed amount of money that you can use to pay for 15 to 20 hours per week of approved employment. 

Work-study positions are not certain. 

You will receive direct biweekly payment for your Work-Study earnings. These funds are typically used for personal costs, transportation, and books. 

Some Study Away locations, although not all, offer Work-Study.

The Wasserman Center for Career Development has listings for positions that you can apply for and is a form of NYU financial aid for international students

Jobs are available across departments and organizations, but they are not guaranteed. Following the payment of your tuition deposit, you can start using the center. 

Students who meet the requirements should apply for the Work-Study positions they are interested in. The majority of jobs require an interview. 

You will be paid an hourly rate from your Work-Study award if you are recruited for a Work-Study position. 

The center can also assist you in locating on-campus jobs that are not funded by federal Work-Study.

Graduate Assistantships – NYU financial aid  for international students

In some institutions, graduate students can apply for assistantships or teaching fellowships. Tuition is waived in exchange for an assistantship or teaching fellowship. You will also get a stipend. 

Expected work:

  • Teach
  • Conduct research, 
  • Participate in other tasks that are necessary for the department as an assistant or fellow. 

To learn more about applying for a fellowship or an assistantship, you should speak with your department directly. 

Your eligibility for several types of financial aid may be impacted by assistantships and teaching fellowships.

If your financial aid document does not specify your assistantship, get in touch with both the Office of Financial Aid and your department.

NYU scholarships for international students after FundRight
