GMAT vs GRE

Which Is Easier: GMAT or GRE?

Which is better or easier – GRE or GMAT – depends on your strengths and weaknesses.

  • If you excel in quantitative and analytical skills, you might find the GMAT more suitable.
  • If you have a strong vocabulary and prefer a test with more reading, the GRE might be the better option.
  • The GMAT Focus Edition removed Sentence Correction (replaced by Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension focus), making it less grammar-heavy than before.

Consider your academic background and career goals when choosing between the two.

GRE to GMAT Conversion

Should I Take the GMAT or GRE?

  • Program type: MBA programs traditionally prefer the GMAT, but many top business schools (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton) now explicitly accept both. For non-business graduate programs, the GRE is usually the go-to test.
  • Career goals: For careers in investment banking or management consulting, a high GMAT score is often preferred by recruiters. For technology, research, or academia, GRE is equally accepted.

Flexibility: The GRE offers more flexibility if you’re considering multiple types of graduate programs – both business and non-business.

GRE and GMAT Study Plan

Preparing for graduate-level admissions tests can be challenging. Here’s how to approach your preparation:

Creating a Study Plan

A balanced study plan should include daily study sessions, weekly goals, and rest days. Start by assessing your baseline performance in each section by taking a practice test. Identify your strengths and weaknesses to allocate study time effectively.

Practice tests are invaluable as they help you familiarize yourself with the exam format, identify areas for improvement, and develop stamina for test day.

Time Management

Effective time management is key to success on both exams. Practice pacing yourself through each section during practice tests. Learn to recognize when to move on from a question. Identify your weak areas early and allocate more time to improving them.
