About International Max Planck Research School

The International Max Planck Research School for Dynamical Processes in Atoms, Molecules and Solids (IMPRS-AMS) is a joint PhD program between MPI-PKS, MPI-CPfS, HZDR, and TU Dresden. Full salary (~€1,800–€2,200/month) in Dresden (Germany's most affordable Excellence city, €760–€1,150/month living costs) means IMPRS-AMS students have among the highest discretionary income of any funded PhD students in Germany. TU Dresden's Excellence designation also appears on the degree.

Admission Requirements for Indian Students

Requirement	Details
Academic qualification	MSc (strongly preferred) or exceptional BSc in physics, materials science, chemistry, or closely related field. Indian applicants: IITs, IISc, TIFR, BITS Pilani physics departments competitive. 8.0+ CGPA typically.
Research experience	Documented condensed matter, quantum physics, or laser/spectroscopy research - publications, thesis, or research internship at a recognised institute.
English	IELTS 7.0+. TOEFL 100+. Strong scientific English for research presentations.
Research statement	800–1,000 words. Specific interest in ultrafast dynamics or quantum materials. Reference specific IMPRS-AMS faculty.
