Why Study at International Max Planck Research School ?

1. MPI-PKS and MPI-CPfS - World Leaders in Condensed Matter Physics

The Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids (MPI-CPfS) are among the world's leading institutes for topological materials, strongly correlated electron systems, quantum phase transitions, and ultrafast spectroscopy. Faculty include winners of the APS and DPG prizes, and research appears regularly in Nature Physics, Physical Review Letters, and Science.

2. HZDR Free-Electron Laser - Unique Research Infrastructure

HZDR's FELBE free-electron laser provides tunable infrared and THz radiation unavailable at most global physics institutes - enabling ultrafast spectroscopy experiments that are impossible elsewhere. IMPRS-AMS students have access to this unique facility.

3. Fully Funded + TU Dresden Excellence Context

Full salary (~€1,800–€2,200/month) in Dresden (Germany's most affordable Excellence city, €760–€1,150/month living costs) means IMPRS-AMS students have among the highest discretionary income of any funded PhD students in Germany. TU Dresden's Excellence designation also appears on the degree.

4. 100% English - No German Required

Research groups, seminars, thesis writing, and PhD defense all in English. No German language proficiency required for program completion.
