The University of Technology of Troyes (UTT) is a French university that is part of a network of three universities of technology. These universities were inspired by the American University of Pennsylvania and combine French university and engineering school traditions. UTT is ranked among the top 10 engineering schools in France by Usine Nouvelle in 2017. The university emphasizes teaching, research, and valorization, which involves transmitting, creating, and transferring knowledge to the economic sector. UTT's teaching model combines both North-American and French traditions, offering a wide range of course choices, separating courses, and incorporating practical work. The university awards an engineering degree that is equivalent to Bac+5 formations of the French Grandes Ecoles. UTT was founded in 1994 and was inaugurated by Jacques Chirac. Thierry Breton, honorary Chairman of Thomson and France Telecom, and former Finance Minister, served as one of the first chairmen of the university from 1997 to 2005.
