Global student mobility is shifting, and Vietnam is emerging as a credible alternative study abroad destination as traditional hubs face rising costs and capacity pressure.
Recent international student sentiment data places Vietnam among the top emerging education destinations, alongside countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal. Students rate Vietnam highly for value for money, academic experience and overall quality of life, with satisfaction scores exceeding those of several traditional English-speaking destinations.
A key driver is affordability. Undergraduate tuition typically remains significantly lower than in the US or UK, while living costs in major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are estimated to be three to four times lower than in cities like London or New York. This cost advantage is becoming decisive as families reassess return on investment.
Vietnam is also benefiting from political stability, economic growth and its strategic position in Southeast Asia. Universities are expanding internationally aligned programs, improving accreditation standards and strengthening industry links to support employability.
With approximately 22,000 international students currently enrolled, Vietnam is no longer viewed as experimental. Instead, it is increasingly seen as a stable, long term education option for students seeking recognized degrees without the financial strain of traditional destinations.
