New data shows India driving record international student growth in Irish universities.
Indian students are emerging as the fastest growing international cohort in Ireland, reinforcing the country’s position as a stable and attractive study destination. According to data cited by Ireland’s Higher Education Authority, enrolments from India rose by nearly 30 percent in 2024–25, making Indian students the largest international group in Irish higher education.
Overall international enrolments in Ireland reached a record 44,535 students in 2024–25, marking over 10 percent annual growth for the fourth consecutive year. Indian students now account for just over one fifth of all international enrolments, with strong growth seen across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Business, law, ICT, natural sciences and other STEM aligned courses remain the most popular choices, reflecting Ireland’s labour market demand and post-study work opportunities. Access to English language education, EU wide career exposure and a relatively predictable visa environment continue to support student interest.
With 70 percent of Ireland’s largest international student populations growing year on year, the data highlights Ireland’s rising relevance for Indian students seeking long term academic and career value.
