Low costs and English taught programs draw Asian students to Greece

Greece is gaining momentum as a cost effective and credible study abroad destination for students from South and Southeast Asia, according to a new white paper by MSM Unify. Once seen as a niche option, the country is now positioning itself as a policy ready European education hub with strong academic recognition and growing global appeal.

The report notes that affordability is reshaping student preferences as education costs in the US, UK and Australia often exceed €35,000 annually. In contrast, Greece offers tuition fees ranging from €5,000 to €15,000, with monthly living costs between €450 and €1,000, among the lowest in the European Union.

Greece also benefits from full recognition under the European Higher Education Area and the Bologna Process, ensuring degrees are portable across Europe. Since 2019, the number of English taught programs has grown by over 80 percent, reaching nearly 470 courses across business, STEM, health sciences and tourism.

With supportive reforms allowing foreign universities to open branch campuses and a focus on Asian markets, international student numbers are projected to rise sharply by 2030, strengthening Greece’s position as a value driven European study destination.
