The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is a public historically black university located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Established in 1873, it is the second oldest public college or university in Arkansas. Originally founded as one of about 180 "normal schools" in the 19th century to train teachers for the growing public common schools, UAPB was among the institutions established to train African Americans to teach in segregated schools. Part of the University of Arkansas System, UAPB has a historical legacy and is affiliated with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. It played a significant role in the educational development of the region and the state.
