Mississippi University for Women, also known as MUW or "The W," is a coeducational public university situated in Columbus, Mississippi. Over the years, the university has undergone name changes, starting as the Industrial Institute and College for the Education of White Girls and later becoming the Mississippi State College for Women. In 1982, MUW made the decision to admit male students, and since then, they have made up approximately 20 percent of the student body. MUW prides itself on being one of only 30 universities in the United States and Canada to be selected for membership in the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.
