Admission requirements

As an international student, you must have:

  • A high school degree if you’re applying for a bachelor’s degree and an undergraduate degree if you’re applying for a Master’s degree.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 in a 4.0 system. Furthermore, the applicant must be eligible to return to the last institution attended.
  • Degree and diploma certificates from all universities attended and official school transcripts in English and in your native language (if applicable). The English translation must come from the academic institution or a certified translator. You must retain a copy of all the submitted transcripts as the university won’t return any documents. 
  • An IELTS score of 6.0 or higher, a TOEFL IBT score of at least 79 and a TOEFL PBT score of at least 550, or an official transcript of a U.S. accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, or Associate’s degree, or completion of Level 6 at the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) at UNT. 
  • Proof of financial support if you’ll be studying on a J-1 or F-1 visa. 

Scholarships and financial aid

The UNT offers $405 million in scholarships and financial aid each year; thereby making it a popular choice among international students to study in the USA.

International students are eligible for two scholarships — UNT Excellence Scholarships and UNT Transfer Excellence scholarships. These merit-based scholarships help international students to pay the University of North Texas tuition fees.
