Winona State University is a public university located in Winona, Minnesota. It was established in 1858 as the First State Normal School of Minnesota, making it the oldest member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System and the first normal school west of the Mississippi River. WSU offers a variety of programs on its main campus, as well as at its satellite campus in Winona State University-Rochester. The university's sports teams, known as the Winona State Warriors, compete in NCAA Division II athletics and participate in 14 sports primarily within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
