The University of West Alabama (UWA) is a public university located in Livingston, Alabama. It has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1835. Initially, the institution served as a school for young women called Livingston Female Academy. The academy was supported by the church and aimed to provide education to young women in the area. In 1836, a Board of Trustees was appointed to oversee the operations of the academy. Interestingly, four out of the seven board members were Presbyterians, highlighting the influence of the Presbyterian community in the early years of the institution.
