Grand Valley State University, also known as GVSU or Grand Valley, is a public university located in Allendale, Michigan. Initially established in 1960 as Grand Valley State College, the university's main campus spans over 1,322 acres (5.35 km2) and is situated approximately 12 miles (19 km) west of Grand Rapids. In addition to the main campus, GVSU has campuses in Grand Rapids and Holland, as well as regional centers in Battle Creek, Detroit, Muskegon, and Traverse City. The university boasts a diverse student body, with enrollment from all 83 Michigan counties, as well as numerous states and foreign countries. GVSU is proud to have a dedicated team of over 3,000 employees, including academic faculty and support staff. The university's alumni network extends to 50 U.S. states, Canada, and 25 other countries. GVSU's athletic teams, known as the Lakers, compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in a variety of intercollegiate varsity sports. Their success is evident, having secured 28 NCAA Division II National Championships.
