Georgia Tech, also known as the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a renowned public research university located in Atlanta, Georgia. It was established in 1885 as part of the University System of Georgia. Over the years, Georgia Tech has expanded its presence with satellite campuses in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Shenzhen, China; and Singapore. Originally, the school focused solely on mechanical engineering, but it later broadened its curriculum to include electrical, civil, and chemical engineering. In 1948, the school changed its name to better reflect its transformation into a comprehensive technical institute and research university. Today, Georgia Tech consists of six colleges and offers a wide range of academic programs with a strong emphasis on science and technology. The university has a vibrant athletic culture, with both organized and intramural sports playing a significant role in the lives of students and alumni. The Yellow Jackets, Georgia Tech's intercollegiate sports teams, have achieved national recognition, particularly in football, where they have won the national championship four times. Georgia Tech is a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and fields eight men's and seven women's teams competing in NCAA Division I athletics and the Football Bowl Subdivision. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity."
