Florida State University, commonly known as Florida State, is a public research university located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. Chartered in 1851, it is a senior member of the State University System of Florida and is situated on Florida's oldest continuous site of higher education. Florida State University is composed of 16 separate colleges and over 110 centers, facilities, labs, and institutes offering a wide range of programs of study. Notable facilities at FSU include Florida's only national laboratory, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which is the State Art Museum of Florida.
