Drew University, located in Madison, New Jersey, is a private university known as the "University in the Forest" due to its expansive 186-acre campus surrounded by wooded areas. The university has a rich history, starting in 1867 when Daniel Drew, a prominent financier and railroad tycoon, purchased an estate in Madison to establish a theological seminary. Originally focused on training candidates for the Methodist ministry, the seminary later expanded its offerings to include undergraduate liberal arts education in 1928 and graduate studies in 1955. Drew University consists of three schools: the College of Liberal Arts, the Drew Theological School, and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. The College of Liberal Arts caters to over 1,600 undergraduate students and provides concentrations in various disciplines such as natural sciences, social sciences, languages and literatures, humanities and the arts, and interdisciplinary fields. The Drew Theological School, one of the oldest Methodist seminaries affiliated with the United Methodist Church, has more than 350 students pursuing ministry careers and academic theology study. The Caspersen School of Graduate Studies offers master's and doctoral degrees in specialized and interdisciplinary fields and has over 250 graduate students. While Drew University has Methodist affiliations, it does not impose any religious requirements on its students. Students of all faiths are welcome to enroll in any program offered by the university. On campus, the United Methodist Church's General Commission on Archives and History is situated, preserving a collection of Methodist records and artifacts spanning from the 19th century to the present.
