The College of New Jersey, also known as TCNJ, is a public university in Ewing Township, New Jersey. It is a part of the public higher education system in the state. TCNJ was established in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School and was the first teaching college in the state and the fifth in the United States. It was initially located in Trenton but later moved to its current location in Ewing Township in the early to mid-1930s. The university has undergone several name changes, with the most recent one in 1996 when it became TCNJ from Trenton State College.
