The university is situated on a 1,400-acre campus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campus is adjacent to Lake Hartwell, which was created by a dam in 1962. Clemson University also manages the Clemson Experimental Forest, a 17,500-acre area used for research, education, and recreation.
