The University of the West of Scotland, formerly known as the University of Paisley, is a public university with four campuses in southwestern Scotland. These are located in the towns of Paisley, Blantyre, Dumfries, and Ayr, along with an additional campus in London, England. The current institution was established in August 2007, resulting from the merger of the University of Paisley with Bell College in Hamilton. Its origins can be traced back to the late 19th century, and it has undergone various name changes and mergers over the last century, reflecting its gradual expansion throughout the west of Scotland region. The Crichton Campus in Dumfries is maintained in partnership with several other institutions, including the University of Glasgow.
