De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a public university located in the city of Leicester, England. It was established in 1992 as a degree-awarding body under the Further and Higher Education Act. The university derives its name from Simon de Montfort, a notable figure from the 13th century who held the title of Earl of Leicester. De Montfort University is organized into four faculties: Art, Design, and Humanities (ADH); Business and Law (BAL); Health and Life Sciences (H&LS); and Computing, Engineering, and Media (CEM). The university is recognized as a Sustainable Development Hub, with a particular focus on promoting Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. This initiative was launched by the United Nations in 2018. In terms of teaching excellence, the university was awarded a Gold rating in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework by the Department of Education. Furthermore, De Montfort University is a proud member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
