Federal loans – NYU financial aid for international students
Federal loans, unlike NYU scholarships for international students, require that you pay back the amount you receive, along with interest. The interest rates are generally lower than what private loan providers offer.

Private (Non-federal) Loans – NYU financial aid for international students
Private loans could come from a bank or other education loan provider. Usually, interest rates, terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements will vary with private loans. Some private loans do not offer full deferment options.

Student Employment
There are two types of student employment: federal work-study and a job. If you don’t quality for NYU scholarships for international students, student employment can help you make ends meet.
Federal Work-Study
In addition to scholarships and loans, your financial aid package from New York University may also include eligibility for work-study.
If you qualify for the Federal Work-Study Program, you will receive a fixed amount of money that you can use to pay for 15 to 20 hours per week of approved employment.
Work-study positions are not certain.
You will receive direct biweekly payment for your Work-Study earnings. These funds are typically used for personal costs, transportation, and books.
Some Study Away locations, although not all, offer Work-Study.
Apply for a Job
The Wasserman Center for Career Development has listings for positions that you can apply for and is a form of NYU financial aid for international students
Jobs are available across departments and organizations, but they are not guaranteed. Following the payment of your tuition deposit, you can start using the center.
Students who meet the requirements should apply for the Work-Study positions they are interested in. The majority of jobs require an interview.
You will be paid an hourly rate from your Work-Study award if you are recruited for a Work-Study position.
The center can also assist you in locating on-campus jobs that are not funded by federal Work-Study.
Graduate Assistantships – NYU financial aid for international students
In some institutions, graduate students can apply for assistantships or teaching fellowships. Tuition is waived in exchange for an assistantship or teaching fellowship. You will also get a stipend.
Expected work:
- Teach
- Conduct research,
- Participate in other tasks that are necessary for the department as an assistant or fellow.
To learn more about applying for a fellowship or an assistantship, you should speak with your department directly.
Your eligibility for several types of financial aid may be impacted by assistantships and teaching fellowships.
