UCL reports stronger Indian enrolments for 2026 driven by scholarships and deeper partnerships.
University College London has recorded a 19% rise in undergraduate and a 26% rise in postgraduate enrolments from India for the 2026 intake. The university attributes this growth to expanded outreach, targeted scholarships and long-term academic collaborations across India.
Michael Spence, president and provost at UCL, said the university’s India Excellence Scholarships and the UCL India Summer School have made high quality UK education more accessible to talented students nationwide. He added that interest is expected to continue rising as students gain clearer insight into UCL’s research strengths and international opportunities.
Importantly, Spence noted that the UK’s appeal is growing alongside sustained interest in the United States, with students today exploring multiple strong destinations based on academic fit, funding options and long-term goals.
Rather than establishing an overseas campus, UCL plans to deepen institutional partnerships across India. Joint funding schemes with IIT Delhi and AIIMS have already supported 63 projects in health, technology and engineering. UCL is also expanding collaboration in quantum science with IISc, IIT Bombay and the Raman Research Institute.
Spence said these partnerships aim to create high impact research and new pathways for Indian students in fields shaping the future economy.
