Australia has doubled the application fee for its Temporary Graduate Visa to AU$4,600, making it the most expensive post study work visa globally and increasing the financial burden on international graduates.
Australia has significantly increased the application fee for the Temporary Graduate Visa, raising it to AU$4,600 from March 1. The visa allows international graduates to work in Australia for 18 months to three years after completing their studies.
The new fee represents a sharp increase from the previous AU$2,300 and makes Australia’s post study work visa the most expensive globally. Fees for dependants have also increased, with partners now required to pay AU$2,300 and children under 18 charged AU$1,150.
The change is part of a broader rise in costs for international students in Australia. Over the past two years, the student visa fee has increased to AU$2,000, while the required proof of funds for living expenses rose to AU$29,710 annually. Health insurance premiums are also expected to rise in April 2026.
Experts say the higher costs could influence international students’ decisions, as many evaluate post study work options when calculating the return on investment for overseas education.
