Trump signals softer stance on H-1B, calls foreign talent essential

Nov 17, 2025 Headline

In a Fox News interview, President Trump emphasized that the U.S. must attract global expertise to sustain growth in high-skill industries.

In a notable shift, U.S. President Donald Trump has defended the H-1B visa program, acknowledging that the United States must continue to attract skilled professionals from around the world to remain competitive. Speaking to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump said, “We do have to bring talent into the country,” adding that certain high-skill fields require expertise not readily available within the U.S. workforce.

The comment marks a softening of tone following the administration’s recent H-1B reforms, which introduced a $100,000 filing fee for new overseas petitions submitted after September 21, 2025. The U.S. State Department later clarified that the new fee applies only to first-time applications or new lottery entries, not to current visa holders or those already working in the country.

Trump’s remarks suggest a more balanced approach, recognizing the importance of maintaining a steady pipeline of high-skill workers in industries such as technology, defense, and manufacturing.

For Indian professionals, who make up the largest share of H-1B visa holders, this statement offers reassurance that the U.S. continues to value international expertise and innovation, even as immigration policies evolve to strengthen fairness and transparency.
