Trent University is a public liberal arts university located in Peterborough, Ontario. It also has a satellite campus in Oshawa, which serves the Regional Municipality of Durham. The university is known for its Oxbridge college system and small class sizes. Trent is a collegiate university, consisting of five colleges. Each college has its own residence halls, dining room, and student government. The student government (Cabinet) and its committees work together with the College Office and dons to organize various events for both resident and non-resident members. These events include visits from scholars, artists, musicians, and scientists, as well as college dinners, dances, and intramural co-educational sports competitions. Trent University offers graduate programs at the master's and doctoral levels, although it is primarily an undergraduate institution. The Symons campus, named after the university's founding president Thomas Symons, is situated on the banks of the Otonabee River in Peterborough. The campus features several original college buildings, such as Champlain College, Lady Eaton College, Bata Library, Chemistry Building, and the Faryon bridge. These buildings were designed by Canadian architect Ron Thom. The Peterborough campus has over 9,000 undergraduate students and over 800 graduate students, while the Trent University Durham GTA campus in Oshawa serves more than 1,900 full- and part-time students. Trent University is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the Trent Excalibur.
