Master’s in France application process and deadlines 2025

France has a compulsory preliminary admission for non-EU students who also reside outside Europe.

This means that all Indian students who currently live in India will have to apply via the Études en France (Studying in France) procedure to French institutions. The Études en France online platform allows you to apply to up to seven institutions with a single application. You will have to pay a fee of €409.

The application process involves researching universities and programs. Then you can prepare your documents for submission on the platform. The application fees and required documents may vary by program but usually include:

  • bachelor’s degree transcripts,
  • resume,
  • motivation letter,
  • passport,
  • headshot,
  • and French translations of all documents.

Some programs may also ask for an interview.

While, the Études en France applications process for the fall (September) 2025 intake has concluded, you can plan to apply for fall intake next year. The applications usually open in early October and close by mid December. The admission results are shared by April. And the selected students have to confirm their offer by the end of May and start their visa application.

Some French universities are not part of the Études en France platform. Therefore, you will have to apply directly on the university’s website for such cases. Similarly, the procedure for students looking to pursue art programs in France is different.

You may take up part-time employment up to 20 hours per week (964 hours per year) while looking for a full-time job.

If you are successful in securing a job that pays 1.5 times the minimum wage (around €4,500 per month), you can apply for a work permit. The permit is valid for 12 months and is renewable. Alternatively, you may also qualify for long-term permits like the Talent Passport or EU Blue Card.
